Halloween Party

Just got home after Halloween Party - what a super afternoon! I counted over 40 children from new-born to teenagers - plus tons of grown-ups pretending to be children. The Hall has rarely been that full apart from Panto.

HUGE thanks to the many helpers, the Zombie Response Team and our Judge - a very difficult task with so many well-dressed youngsters and a dozen beautifully-carved pumpkins.

 RATS made a great job of making the hall child-safe in the middle of rehearsals - so thanks to them. And thanks to Radio Shropshire for the mention this morning. It was all a bit short notice and children are hard to reach in Half-Term, so that really helped. My "three words" for the week-end were "rounding up children" - that captured a bit of attention!But the real stars were the children - where DO they get their energy??!!

I gave away the few cakes that were left to some passing witches etc - better than wasting them. I seem to have "won" more than I went with - a child's hoody with yellow sunshine on the sleeve. Lots of decorations etc. If anyone wants to claim them just let me know. I can keep the decorations for next year if not - there WILL be a next year won't there? Total takings were £127.14 - outstanding - thanks all. Since it was a definite "we" job, I suggest £60 for Village Hall Funds and the balance of £67.14 for pre-school. A really worthwhile afternoon. MAGIC!

Do It Yourself Wreath Making Workshop - this is your chance to make your own Christmas Wreath or a Christmas Table decoration.

Bring greenery to share (and a candle if you prefer to make a table decoration). Other materials supplied.

This will be a fun evening for everyone – especially those who don't think they are good with flowers and arrangements.

Free Training Course

Who:              Adults living in Ruyton X I Towns close to the village centre (but further out will be considered too)

When:           Tues 03^rd November 2015 at 6pm to 9pm

Where:          St John the Baptist CE Primary School

What:            Defibrillator Training Course

Why:               It is estimated that there are up to 175,000 heart attacks in

the UK each year, that's one every three minutes.  Eleven children a week have a cardiac arrest.  The Baschurch defibrillators have already been used several times and have saved lives.  Now Ruyton XI Towns can do the same!

 

Avril Sanders Royle, local chiropractor, is working with the school to organise training for local people.  She says, "We need to have a list of people who are available at some times - maybe as little as just one half day or an evening a week when they can be called in the event of a cardiac arrest.  With the technology available a call will automatically go to the people all the trained people so that one of them to get to school and take the defibrillator to the casualty.  The equipment is really easy to use and requires the volunteers to attend a short course to learn how to use it.  We need ALL the people who are close by to learn how to use the defib and help reduce the country's leading cause of death.  The Parish Council have already provided training for 17 people."

AT THE BRITISH IRONWORK CENTRE

 

Dust off your broomsticks and dress up your little monsters as the British Ironwork Centre prepares for its FREE renowned Halloween Spooktacular.

 

Join us on the Friday 30^th October for plenty of family Halloween fun. Come andmeet some of our scariest sculptures ever from terminator, alien and terrifying spiders to menacing scarecrows, expect the unexpected. 

For all those arachnophobes be warned you're in for a fright, we have the largest spider in the UK visiting, think Aragog from Harry Potter but much bigger!

Staff are readying the fake blood and scream inducing decorations, our ghostly face painting services will also be on offer not to mention a host of sweet treats and a prize for the scariest costume.

 

Beware the wicked witch of the West, this malevolent visitor will also be joining our horrifying team, her ghastly cackle is sure to haunt you long into the Halloween evening! Children are invited to take part in a Halloween safari quiz to test their knowledge of the animal kingdoms most fearsome beasts.

 

Although the Halloween spectacular is FREE OF CHARGE, Fusion arts will also be at the centre giving demonstrations / experiences such as fire breathing,  game tournaments, glitter tattoos & drums experience for a minimal cost.

Printing posters to help publicising events

When sending a poster that you want put up, please consider the amount of ink that it will take.  Whilst a coloured background is very eye catching, it won't be printed by some recipients and thus will reach far less people.

A clear, A 4 poster with black lettering in various size fonts and boldness can be printed can be easily seen by passersby.

Cafe Eleven is hosting a Christmas Craft Fayre on Sunday 22nd November, starting at 12 through to 4pm. You will have an opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and treat yourself to something tasty in the cosy surroundings of the cafe. Several artisan crafters will be on hand with their makes to purchase on the day or to order in time for Christmas. Entry is free.
