Westmorland Damson Association DAMSON DAY on 13th April

For your information, attached is an electronic copy of the flyer which gives you information about the day. Please support our damson-themed competition! If you have a jar of damson jam or chutney lurking in your store cupboard or even some damson gin, please consider making an entry. Alternatively a photograph, a poem, some artwork or even a Spring hat! Please see the flyer for more information - for the Art category there is some additional information - 'Nature in the Valley'    Any medium or size, framed, mounted or neither.  Name on the back

Finally, if you would like to join us in the Lyth Valley for a walk to view the damson blossom please email me on info@lythdamson.org.uk The walks will be on Saturday 6th April and Saturday 20th April, starting at 10.30 from South Low Farm in the Lyth Valley.

Unfortunately we do not have any young damson trees available but you  can get them from the WDA with full instructions on how to look after the trees.

Please plant more damsons - see attached postcard from the past.

Two classic films at Kinokulture independent cinema

Dear Blogger

Message forwarded by Ingrid Knowles, Oswestry.net

Two big films for April

THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD: British screen icon Richard Burton is in top form as the British spy sent into East Germany in the Cold War - supposedly to defect, but in fact to sow disinformation. As more plot turns appear, he questions how he's being used as a pawn in a bigger game. How will he react? The film - based on super spy-novelist John  le Carre's early book - is deliberately shot in black and white to heighten the tension.
THE MORE YOU IGNORE ME: Our second film, a comedy-drama set in the 1980s, is also based on a critically-acclaimed book - by Jo Brand. A teenage girl struggles to relate to her loving mother's mental decline, and causes chaos when she comes up with a plan to reconnect with her. Set to the songs of The Smiths, the film provides a sometimes stark yet comical insight into life within this quirky household. Brand herself has a part as the local shop-keeper who ends up on the roof!
